About us:

The name "MacThrowfar" came about by accident when someone misread the clan shirt "MacFarlane" at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games Competition in July 2022. As a joke, a MacThrowfar "clan" shirt was created with its own crest, motto, and color scheme to be worn during the competition. Surprisingly, many people became interested in getting their own MacThrowfar shirt, gaining support from local highland athletes and spreading its popularity across the country and even worldwide. Soon after, the idea of creating a tartan for a kilt was suggested, which could be worn by anyone participating in the competition or representing the sport. In the fall of 2023, the Tartan was officially registered with The Scottish Register of Tartans in Edinburgh, with the registry number 14000. Any kilt maker in the world can access the specifications to weave the MacThrowfar Tartan.

Unfortunately, we were not allowed to name it "Clan MacThrowfar" as some may miss take the name for a real clan...

Like other cultural and regional sports, the highland athletic community has evolved.  People from all walks of life and various backgrounds come together to participate in this sport, regardless of their Scottish heritage. When it comes to choosing a tartan, many individuals do so randomly, whether it be based on their military service, country of origin, an institution they belong to, or simply because they find the pattern appealing. Clan MacThrowfar offers an opportunity for those who are not affiliated with an official clan to join a "clan of throwers" with a shared goal of excelling in highland athletics and promoting the sport.
